We are thrilled to share that Mrs. Lynn DeRosia, Croatan High School Math Teacher, has been named a Finalist for the 2026 ECU Clinical Teacher of the Year Award!
Presented by the East Carolina University College of Education and sponsored by the Walter and Daisy Carson Latham Clinical Schools Network, this prestigious award recognizes outstanding K–12 educators who serve as clinical teachers for ECU teacher candidates.
Each year, ECU student teaching interns nominate the clinical teachers who have made the greatest impact on their development as future educators. With more than 50 nominations submitted in 2026, only five teachers were selected as finalists , and we are proud to say Ms. DeRosia is one of them!
She was recognized for her exceptional dedication to mentoring teacher candidates, modeling strong instructional practices, and helping shape the next generation of educators. The finalists were honored at the ECU Clinical Teacher Summit on March 4.

🎉 National School Resource Officer Day Recognition 🎉
Yesterday was National School Resource Officer Day, and although it fell on a Sunday, we’re proud to recognize Officer Timmy Quillen today at Croatan. Officer Quillen goes above and beyond every day to build meaningful relationships with students, support staff, and keep our campus safe. He is always willing to lend a helping hand, offer guidance, or simply be a steady, positive presence for our kids.

CCPS continues to work with the National Weather Service and Carteret County Emergency Services to monitor weather conditions that may affect our community. Due to multiple weather forecasting models predicting heavy snow accumulation as well as frigid temperatures throughout the weekend and early next week, Carteret County Public Schools will be operating under the following conditions-
Beginning Saturday, January 31, 2026, all extracurricular and athletic activities are cancelled for the weekend and until further notice.
Monday, February 2, 2026, will now be a snow day (no school) for students and an optional workday for staff.
On Monday, all schools and CCPS buildings will be closed. Staff members that do not take leave will work remotely.
February 16, 2026, will now be a regular school day, and students will report to school.
If severe weather continues to affect our area after Monday, February 2nd, schools will most likely be operating under remote learning for students. If this is the case, please be prepared. More information will be communicated on Monday to students, staff, and parents.
