food assistance

As members of the Croatan High School community, we take pride in caring for one another—students, families, and neighbors alike. With our strong military presence across Carteret County, we know many of our families are directly affected by the current federal government shutdown. While our service members continue their duties with courage and honor, some households are experiencing delayed or uncertain paychecks, creating unexpected financial challenges.

Government-funded food assistance programs are also temporarily disrupted due to the shutdown. This means that families who depend on these programs may not currently have access to their usual benefits. While we await restored funding, our community is coming together to make sure no family faces these challenges alone.

A Message of Unity

Even in difficult times, our school and community stand strong together.
We want every family in our Cougar community to know: we are family, and we are in this together. Whether you are connected to a military household or a civilian one, whether you’re experiencing financial uncertainty or offering help — we stand united as neighbors, classmates, teachers, and friends.

If your family is facing challenges:

  • Please reach out to trusted school staff — we may know of additional local resources or ways to help quietly and respectfully.

  • Explore local community resources for food and support: Carteret County Community Resources

  • Consider donating or volunteering — small contributions like shelf-stable groceries, canned goods, or baby formula make a big difference.

  • Participate in our food drive for Hope Mission! This is a great way to help families in our county. Information about the food drive and how to contribute can be found here: Croatan High School Food Drive

  • Remember that other families might also be struggling. A kind word, a shared meal, or simply checking in can make a difference.

Cougars, we rise together — because family takes care of family.
