NAHS Meetings
NAHS meetings generally last 30 mins. or may be shorter. We are having to switch to Fridays this year instead of Tuesdays because of Mr. Stouffer now coaching football. We will still try and stay with our first and third Friday month meeting schedule to stay consistent.
During our first meeting we will meet and greet with everyone so all feel welcome, nominate and elect this year's officers, discuss the t-shirt design for this year and any upcoming events or projects. We will also go over big projects for the year, field trips and give an overview of what the CHS NAHS is and what we do for those that aren't familiar with our group.
There is a $15, one time joining fee that covers your membership dues to the national chapter, materials for special projects and NAHS graduation cords for graduating seniors. Other benefits of being in the NAHS is it is a national organization governed by the National Art Education Association. So including your membership on college applications and scholarship applications would be a plus because we are very community project oriented.

Croatan NAHS Participates in Arts Day at ECU
On Tuesday, May 25, East Carolina University's School of Art and Design opened their doors to the best art students from Croatan, East Carteret and West Carteret High Schools in hosting the first Carteret County Schools Arts Day. ECU professors offered the high school students workshops in metals, ceramics and printmaking. Students also got to tour the Leo W. Jenkins Fine Arts Center and eat lunch in the ECU dining hall. This ended up being an awesome opportunity for the high school students to experience college life for a day and learn more about the visual arts programs that ECU has to offer.

2020 Empty Bowls Event
Had an amazing day with the National Art Honor Society students. We volunteered at the Empty Bowls luncheon at the Coastal Carolina Civic Center. My students made and donated 54 ceramic bowls along with other artists in the community for the event, and all proceeds went to Hope Mission! It was great for my students to participate and get involved with the community, as well as meet and work with other students in our county. Such a great opportunity to do good in our community!
NAHS Mans Booth at Diamond City Art Gala
Members of the Croatan HS National Art Honor Society received their first experience working an art festival recently as the Arts Council of Carteret County sponsored the Chapter a booth at the 2019 Diamond City Art & Music Festival. It was a great experience for the high school students as many art lessons were addressed that often aren't touched upon in the classroom such as how much do you price your art work for, how to set up an aesthetically appealing display and how to converse with possible patrons. Our students did a wonderful job with all of them selling some artwork. For many it was the first time they had sold a piece of their artwork! We ended up selling $305 worth of artwork. As part of the stipulation of the festival, every booth had to have a painter working on a coastal themed piece. Nicolina Secchi was our featured painter. At the end of the festival all of the paintings were judged and Nico's finished in the top 5 entering it into the silent auction that evening. It ended up selling for $200.
